June is Pride Month!
“When all Americans are treated as equal, no matter
who they are or whom they love, we are all more free.”– President Barack Obama
The first Gay Pride parade, then known as Christopher Street Liberation Day, was held on June 28, 1970 to celebrate gay pride and to commemorate the Stonewall riots that had occurred exactly one year earlier.
Nowadays,Pride is a month of parades, parties, marches, and events that celebrate the contributions of LTBTQ – lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer people and highlight their ongoing fight for equal rights.
Pride month, much like the name implies, is all about being your authentic self and showing off your true colors. Likewise, it is about celebrating the true colors of everyone around us and taking pride in the diversity of our communities.
Pride celebrations last all throughout the month of June, but supporting our LGBTQ friends and neighbors is a year-round event.
In that spirit, I’d like to wish you a very happy and colorful Pride. PRIDE.
