The San Diego County coastline starts at the border with Mexico and runs north to Orange County. In between are over 100 named beaches with a lot of diversity.
The city of San Diego is large and it has many coastal neighborhoods that are almost considered cities of their own. Lifeguard stations can be found on the most popular beaches in the region, but some of these are only staffed seasonally. Several beaches in the county have famous piers to enjoy and the urban beaches have shops and restaurants nearby.
